Our group is passionate about helping our clients and that passion extends to having positive impact in the world beyond our work. As part of our commitment to partner with our clients, we make charitable donations in the name of our clients to an organization of their choosing. We ask clients to select from a list of causes that have special significance to our staff as well:
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation - Joseph
While numerous forms of cancer have affected my family, nothing has touched us more significantly than breast cancer. My wife Nora passed away in February 2013 after a 6-year battle with the disease. We support organizations that work to find breakthroughs for future generations of women and men. One such organization, sponsored by our company, is The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.
The BCRF's mission is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health. Currently, over 90 cents of every dollar donated to BRCF goes to breast cancer research and awareness programs. As such, BCRF has received an A+ rating from the Charity Watch group - The American Institute of Philanthropy. Depicted in the photo is my daughter, Fiona, with me at a breast cancer walk.
Girls on the Run - Jill
Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. I chose this organization because it incorporates psychology, nutrition, and physical activity. The program includes a 12-week curriculum that aims to enhance the girls' self-esteem, body image, and healthy eating habits as well as well as demonstrating the positive benefits of physical activity by providing 5K training. At the end of the program, the girls have the opportunity to participate in a non-competitive 5K as a group. Completion of the 5K provides a feeling of strength and a real sense of accomplishment for the girls.
Nurses for Newborns - Kelly
I feel connected to Nurses for Newborns because I believe every child deserves the chance to shine. It makes sense to me that in order to become a successful adult we must start from birth. Some parents do not have a support system or skills for raising a child. When they take the initiative to reach out and ask for that help someone must be there to answer the call. This is what Nurses for Newborns does for so many families. Not only do they educate parents and parents-to-be but they provide basic essentials such as diapers, bottles and formula. Whether a parent lives in poverty, has a disability or is a teenager this organization is there to provide assistance.
If our clients can't quite make up their minds on which cause to direct our partnered contribution, we will make a donation to Free Rice for them after two weeks from the invitation. Free Rice works through the World Food Programme where an astounding 89.2% of all donations go straight towards aiding malnourished people across the globe.
"There are 925 million undernourished people in the world today. That means one in seven people do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. Hunger and malnutrition are in fact the number one risk to the health worldwide - greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined." -WFP
